The cup of trouble for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is overflowing with one of its ministers, Raaj Kumar Anand, who is resigning from the party’s main membership saying he can no longer tolerate the deep-rooted corruption that has engulfed it.

The development comes at a time when the AAP founder and Delhi Chief Minister is under judicial custody on corruption charges.

AAP immediately attributed Anand’s resignation to the BJP trying to break up the party with the help of a central investigation agency.
While Anand claimed that the party was “sunk in the quicksand of graft”, reports suggest that he himself is under investigation in an alleged money laundering case.

Addressing a press conference at his home after handing in his resignation to party secretary Sandeep Pathak, he said: “I entered politics when Kejriwal said that if its politics changed, the country would change. But today, I say with great sadness, that politics has not changed but the political leaders have changed.

The AAP was born out of an anti-corruption movement, but today this party is mired in the same quicksand of graft.” He also accused the AAP of discriminatory practices in filling leadership positions in the party.

"There is no Dalit MK or councilor in Aam Aadmi Party. Dalit leaders are not even appointed to leadership positions. I follow the principles of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. If I cannot work for Dalit, then there is no point in being in the party," Anand told reporters in Delhi.
