Indore (Madhya Pradesh): One of the three workers injured in the explosion at the firecracker factory died of his injuries in hospital on Wednesday. All the three injured suffered more than 60% burn injuries and Rohit succumbed to his injuries as he suffered more than 80% burns. The blast took place on Tuesday afternoon in a shed-like structure at a factory in Ambachandan village in Maho.

The explosion occurred when two workers inside the factory asked the third worker, who was outside, for an iron barbell as they needed to weigh something. The worker threw the iron weight that hit the weighing machine and led to a spark that set off the explosion.

Rohit Sarwal (20), a resident of Datoda, who was seriously injured in the explosion, received life support. He was in a state of shock after the incident and despite all efforts he could not be saved, Dr. Amit Bhatt, Deputy Director (Health Services) of Chovitram Hospital told the media.

The condition of two other workers, Arjun Rathore (27) and Umesh Chauhan (29), who suffered severe burns in the explosion, is now stable, he said. The elder brother of the deceased, Sandeep, said that Rohit joined the factory about 10 days before the incident. In the past he worked alongside their father, who is a painter. He was unmarried and was the youngest child of his parents who had two other sons.

Anil, a relative of Rohit, said that Rohit was engaged and his marriage was fixed. The Mhow police registered a case against firecracker factory owner Muhammad Shakir Khan under the relevant sections of the Explosives Act and Section 308 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (culpable homicide). The factory, named ‘Ali Fireworks’, was run by Khan and has been on the run since the explosion and the police have formed teams to search for him. The police conducted the postmortem of the deceased.

Deputy Inspector General Nimish Aggarwal, accompanied by a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), visited the factory site to conduct a thorough inspection and assess the situation first hand. The incident served as a chilling reminder of the risks involved in handling explosives and the paramount importance of following safety protocols and regulations in such dangerous industries.
