NEW DELHI: The Government of India has reacted harshly to America, which has criticized the violation of human rights in India. India said there was a mistake in understanding the situation properly. The US State Department had released a statement regarding the outbreak of violence in Manipur last year that there were human rights violations in Manipur. India reacted strongly to the report, calling the statement biased. The US report highlights a lack of understanding.

Responding to a question about the US report at a press conference, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, said the report was biased. Reflects a very poor understanding of India. We place no value on this.

What is in the US report?
A recently released report on human rights practices 2023 cited ethnic conflict between Maithai and Kuki communities in Manipur, India as a cause of human rights violations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had condemned the Manipur incident as a disgrace. He called for action on the case.
Human Rights Assessment
The US State Department’s annual human rights assessment report has claimed that media critical of the Indian government are harassing them. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar took a dig at the criticism against India.
