BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had accused Mahua Moitra of cash for inquiry and demanded an inquiry by the Lok Sabha. After this, on December 8, the Ethics Committee presented the report of the inquiry in the Lok Sabha. Mahua was expelled from the Lok Sabha.

In the money for inquiry case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has called TMC leader Mahua Moitra for questioning today. The news agency PTI has given this information citing sources. ED wants to question her in the Foreign Exchange Tor (FEMA) case. After recording his statement, some foreign transactions and transactions related to NRI account are also under the scanner of the agency.

The investigating agency has already issued summons to Moitra twice under FEMA, but did not appear to cite her official work.

Apart from Mahua, ED has also issued summons to businessman Darshan Hiranandani and called him for questioning today. Earlier, his father Niranjan Hiranandani had appeared before the agency in Mumbai.

Mahua has been accused of asking questions about money in Lok Sabha
In fact, last year, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had accused Moitra of asking questions in the Lok Sabha to target Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in return for expensive gifts and money.

Mahua was also charged with endangering national security. After this, the matter was sent to the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha, where Mahua was found guilty. After this Mahua was expelled from the Lok Sabha.

Mahua Moitra (49) was elected Lok Sabha MP from Krishnanagar, West Bengal in 2019 on a TMC ticket.  He was expelled from the Lok Sabha in December 2023.

CBI is also investigating the money case for enquiry.
The central investigation agency CBI is also conducting a preliminary investigation against TMC MP Mahua Moitra. The issue relates to the Cash for Query case only. According to news agency PTI, CBI has started an investigation following the directions of Lokpal. Based on this investigation, the agency will decide whether a criminal case should be registered against Moitra or not.

Under preliminary investigation, CBI cannot arrest or search an accused, but it can seek information. TMC can also question the MP.

Understand the action on Mahua in 10 points…

  1. Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai accused Mahua of corruption and money laundering.
  2. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said Mahua took money from businessman Darshan Hiranandani and asked him questions in the Lok Sabha.
  3. Nishikant complained about this to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Om Birla sent the complaint to the Ethics Committee.

  5. Hiranandani told the committee that he had used Mahua’s parliamentary login ID and password in Dubai to post his questions.
  6. Mahua admitted to sharing his parliamentary login credentials. They also agreed to take a scarf, lipstick and eyeshadow as gifts.
  7. The Ethics Committee report found Mahua guilty. 10 out of every 15 members of the committee voted in the expulsion case. Of these, 6 votes were cast in favor and 4 against.
  8. The committee submitted the report to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Mahua was expelled from the Lok Sabha.
  9. Mahua said no evidence of cash or gift was found against him. The Ethics Committee made a report against me without any evidence and the Kangaroo Court punished me.
  10. Mahua challenged his expulsion from the Lok Sabha in the Supreme Court.

4 main characters linked to the Cash for Query case…

There are mainly four characters in the Cash for Query case. TMC leader Mahua Moitra, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, lawyer Jai Ananth Dehadrai and Darshan Hiranandani, CEO of real estate company Hiranandani Group.

1. Mahua Moitra: Educated in America, worked in London and politics in Bengal.

The protagonist of this case is Mahua Moitra, who faces all the allegations. TMC MP Mahua Moitra is basically a banker. After basic education, Moitra went to America for higher education. He later got a job in a reputed bank in London.

After a few years, he became disillusioned with his job and jumped into politics. He won his first election in 2016 from West Bengal’s Karim Nagar assembly. In 2019, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Krishnanagar on a TMC ticket and won.

2. Nishikant Dubey: Was in the corporate world before coming to politics.

The second important character in this story is BJP MP Nishikant Dubey. He wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on October 15. In this he had accused Mahua that Mahua had taken money and gifts to ask questions in Parliament.

Nishikant Dubey, BJP MP Godda, Jharkhand, entered politics in 2009. Before this he was the corporate head of Essar Group. He won his first election from Godda in 2009. After this, he won in 2014 and 2019 as well.

3. Darshan Hiranandani: CEO of real estate company Hiranandani Group, competitor of Adani Group.

Darshan Hiranandani, 42, has written a letter and made more allegations against Mahua. Darshan is the CEO of Mumbai-based real estate and infrastructure company, Hirandani Group. His father is real estate tycoon Niranjan Hiranandani.

Darshan is the President of many companies like Data Center, Cloud Computing, Oil & Gas, Logistics, Warehousing etc. which are under Hiranandani Group. Darshan holds MBA and BSc degrees from Rochester Institute of Technology, New York. Hirandani Group is a competitor of Adani Group.

4. Jai Anant Dehadrai: Supreme Court lawyer who accused Mahua

Jai Ananth Dehadrai is a Supreme Court lawyer. According to reports, Jai Ananth Dehadrai and Mahua Moitra were friends earlier, but later they had a fight. Moitra had filed a police complaint against Dehadrai for criminal trespass, theft, obscene messages and misconduct in the last six months. On the other hand, Anant has filed a complaint against Moitra in CBI by giving evidence. After this, the same evidence was submitted through BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and a complaint was submitted to the Senate.

Mahua Moitra asked 62 questions in Parliament, 9 related to Adani.
Since becoming an MP in 2019, Mahua Moitra has asked 62 questions relating to 28 central ministries in Parliament. These include petroleum, agriculture, shipping, civil aviation, railways etc.

According to the sansad.in website, out of 62 questions, there were a maximum of nine questions for the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, followed by eight questions for Finance.

Out of a total of 62 questions, 9 related to Grŵp Adani. Of these, there were six questions for the Ministry of Petroleum and one question each for the Finance, Civil Aviation and Coal Ministries.
