Jamaat-e-Islami spokesperson Qaiser Sharif has said that the election process for Ameer Pakistan Jamaat-e-Islami is going on.

In a statement issued by Lahore, a spokesman for Jamaat-e-Islami said that the election of the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami every 5 years is a constitutional requirement. The Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami is elected for the next 5 years.

According to the spokesperson, the term of the newly elected Amir Jamaat-e-Islami will last until April 2029.

He said that Jamaat-e-Islami is a fully democratic party and regular elections are held at all levels as per the constitution of the party.

The spokesman said that Jamaat-e-Islami is not a party of any individual or family, but is a party of all members and workers. All district offices across the country have ballot boxes. The representatives of the Central Election Commission are at district level. 46 thousand members from all over the country will exercise their right to vote by secret ballot.

According to the spokesperson, the last date for the arrival of sealed envelopes of votes from the districts and states is March 31, while the counting process will start from April 1 at the Electoral Commission’s central office, Mansurah. After the counting is complete, Electoral Commission President Rashid Naseem will announce the results.

The spokesman said that the Central Majlis Shura proposed three names to lead the members. Including Sirajul Haque, Liaqat Baloch and Hafiz Naeemur Rehman.

He said that Jamaat-e-Islami members can vote for anyone other than these three. Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Siraj-ul-Haq completes his second term as an emirate on April 8. Siraj-ul-Haq is the fifth Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami.

He said earlier that the Amirs of Jamaat-e-Islami were Maulana Syed Abu Ala Maududi, Mian Tufail Muhammad, Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Syed Manwar Hassan.
