In the meeting, CM Stalin said that we are in a difficult situation right now. We must use water sparingly. The demand for drinking water will increase in the next two months. We have to meet the water requirements. Officers should work together for public interest: CM

The CM told the officials that they should monitor the functioning of the joint drinking water schemes. The officers need to meet people and solve problems immediately. According to him, where drilling wells have dried up, drinking water must be provided through tankers. In the summer, the demand for water is high but the availability of water is less, hence making united efforts for the public interest. It is noteworthy that during the recent Northeast Monsoon, heavy rain fell in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, causing flooding in the region. However, less rain fell in the western districts of Tamil Nadu.

The water crisis deepens in South India

Earlier, the Central Water Commission (CWC) said that with the onset of summer, the water crisis in the country has started to deepen. The situation is worse in South India. South Indian states are facing a severe water crisis and the situation is that the capacity of the water storage reservoirs has been reduced to only 17 percent. South Indian states include Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. In a bulletin issued by CWC on Thursday regarding the storage level of reservoirs in different regions of India, it said that there are 42 reservoirs under the supervision of the commission in the southern region with a total storage capacity of 53.334 BCM (Billion Cubic Meters). According to the latest report, the total current storage in these reservoirs is 8.865 BCM, which is only 17 percent of their total capacity.
