Speaking at the same rally, Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari supported Bhuria’s statement and said, ‘Bhuria ji has made a great announcement that a person who has two wives will get double amount (financial assistance of Rs. 1 lakh)’ . According to the Congress manifesto, under Mahalakshmi Yojana, below poverty line (BPL) women will get Rs 8500 per month until they come out of this category, which is equivalent to Rs 102000 annually.

Kantilal Bhuria won the 2009 Lok Sabha election from Ratlam, but lost to BJP’s Dilip Singh Bhuria in 2014. In 2015, the seat fell vacant due to Dilip Singh’s death and Congress leader Kantilal won from here again in a by-election. But in 2019, he again lost to BJP’s Guman Singh Damor.
