Kumari Selja and Dr Ashok Tanwar.

This time the electoral contest in Sirsa Lok Sabha will be interesting. From Sirsa, Congress has given ticket to Kumari Selja and BJP to Dr Ashok Tanwar. The special thing is that both the candidates have been former Congress state presidents and both of them started their political career from the Congress. Kumari Selja was an MP from the Sirsa Lok Sabha constituency in 1991 and 1996. After Dr Sushil was defeated from Indora in the parliamentary elections held in 1998, Selja had shifted to Ambala. Now Selja has returned to Sirsa again after 26 years. After 1996, she is now contesting MP election from Sirsa in 2024. BJP candidate from Sirsa, Dr Ashok Tanwar had contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Sirsa Lok Sabha and won this seat by defeating his nearest rival, Dr Sita Ram of INLD by 35499 votes. In 2014, Dr Ashok Tanwar lost this seat to INLD’s Charanjit Singh Rodi. In 2019, he was defeated by BJP candidate Sunita Duggal.

After the defeat in Sirsa, Selja had gone to Ambala in 1998 for INLD.
