The first batch of 40 election officials, including police personnel, was flown to four remote polling stations in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kara Dadi district for voting. The Lok Sabha and Assembly elections will be held here simultaneously on April 19.
Polling officials along with EVMs and VVPATs were on Monday airlifted to polling stations in the remote Pip-Surang constituency bordering China, an official said on Tuesday. After staying at Tali, the district ADC headquarters, these officers will march on foot to reach the Pip-Surang circle.
The poll workers arrived in Buster by helicopter
In the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections, some poll workers were on Tuesday dispatched in several helicopters amid tight security to the Naxal-hit Bastar seat. The vote for this seat will also take place on April 19. There have been several incidents of Naxalite attacks on security forces in the past during elections in the two districts in the southern part of the Baster Lok Sabha constituency.
A 48-hour ban on Surjewala from the election campaign
The Election Commission has severely reprimanded Congress General Secretary Randeep Surjewala for his objectionable remarks against Mathura MP and BJP candidate Hema Malini. Besides, his election campaign was also banned for 48 hours. This ban came into effect from 18:00 on Tuesday evening. This is the first such action against a leader in this Lok Sabha election. The Election Commission issued an explanatory notice to Surjwala last Tuesday. To this he replied that the video cited by BJP is being taken care of. The committee rejected his claim. After the ban, Surjewala will not be able to attend any public meeting, rally or procession and will not be able to give media interviews.
