The Halifax professional soccer team kicks off its sixth season against Ottawa on Saturday with a sell-out crowd of 6,500 fans at the Wanderers Grounds.

“We’re excited to get our fans back to the stadium. It’s something we’ve been able to pick up season after season. It’s amazing,” said Halifax Wanderers FC Sporting Director Matt Fegan.

Fegan said the team was excited to showcase their skills in front of the loyal fans. He said they have been preparing for the season, including integrating new players into the Halifax community.

“A lot of our players are actually away from home,” he explained. “So getting them into Halifax so they can familiarize themselves with the community is critical.”

Players arrived from outside Halifax in February and have been training for the season ever since.

The upcoming Canadian Championships adds an extra layer of excitement to the season Fegan said, with the Wanderers set to face Toronto FC on Thursday.

“There’s a lot riding on that game too. We are focused on this game, but we are also looking forward to the game on Thursday.”

As the Wanderers focus on bringing home victory to this year’s Canadian Premier League (CPL) and Canadian Championships, discussions about a permanent stadium and infrastructure are underway.

“Building a permanent stadium and the infrastructure that goes with it allows us to thrive and grow,” explained Fegan. “There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to make this vision a reality.”

With anticipation and excitement in the air, the team promises an unforgettable season.
