Social media giant Meta’s watchdog board sought public opinion on what action should be taken against obscene images generated with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) in two cases. The board, which decides on the provision of content, said these cases are related to Indian and American celebrities. One of the two cases involved an AI-generated photo of a naked woman posted on Instagram.

According to a statement, this image resembles a famous personality of India. It is created using AI. The account from which this content was posted only shares AI generated images of Indian women. Most of the users responding to this are from India, where the problem of deep fakes is increasing.

Meta asked for public opinion on this issue. However, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has already asked social media companies to remove fake images and videos generated with the help of AI. Fake photos and videos of many Indian actresses including Rashmika Mandana and Priyanka Chopra have gone viral on social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook and X. The board informed that the post was removed in a matter related to India. The council sought public opinion on a case in America.

In this case, the photo has already been removed from the platform as a violation of Facebook’s community standards.
