Bhubaneswar: With the summer heat in the country, election excitement has increased. Lungi is at the forefront of menswear in India. In the southern and western part of India lungi is mostly worn by men. Now Lungi War has escalated in Odisha Politics. Odisha, which is facing Assembly and Lok Sabha elections together, is in the air of lung politics. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik had recently appealed for votes wearing a lungi and holding cones, the symbol of his party. He made a video holding a pair of cones to vote for the cone symbol in the Legislative Assembly and the Lok Sabha.
Sarcasm from BJP leaders
Union Minister and BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan was sarcastic about this. Naveen is older, I respect him. But should he appear in a lungi? A clerk in Odisha also wears kurta and pyjama. He insisted that this situation should have happened to the CM. The leaders of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) have responded to this by wearing lungis and showing their support for their Prime Minister.
BJD is back
BJD leaders Sasmit Patra and Swayam Prakash Mahapatra appeared at Shankha Bhavan (BJD headquarters) for a press conference. He was not wearing his traditional kurta pajama and pant shirt. Both the BJD leaders wore lungis. Odisha will go to polls simultaneously for 21 Lok Sabha seats in its 147-seat assembly.
