Lafayette Beach was hit by Storm Pyrique on April 9, causing significant damage.

Access was restricted to visitors last week while repair work got under way, but part of the beach remains closed almost a week later.

Announcing the news, Lafayette Country Park said: “Due to the damage caused by the storm on 9 April, the D-Day end of the beach is currently dangerous and as such is unsafe for public access.

“Thanks to everyone for their understanding and patience with us while the work continues – as always, please come and find us at the lookout if you have any questions.”

The peak tides hit the beach on Monday night and in the early hours of Tuesday morning last week.

A full assessment of the area was carried out by the team last week.

It is not known when the D-Day section of the beach will reopen at this time.
