Guwahati: BJP candidate for Karimganj Lok Sabha seat and sitting MP Kripanath Malach is confident of victory. According to him, the Congress and AIDUF are in a battle for the second post in the constituency. Rahul Chanda of GPlus catches up with him for an exclusive chat, as he wraps up his campaign. Karimganj goes to poll on April 26.

GPlus: You are the sitting MP contesting from Karimganj. What are the 5 changes you have brought in Karimganj in the last five years?

Kripanath Malla (KM): First of all, the national highway from Krimganj to Kiraivari was in a bad condition, but now it is much better. Even the road from Silchar to Karimganj was in bad condition. Now this is the best in Karimganj. Besides, Rs 2000 crore has been sanctioned for roads from Karimgnaj to Chiraibari, Silchar and Sutarkandi.

Another thing is Mahisasan International Railway Station. People can reach Karimganj from Kolkata via Bangladesh in 8-9 hours. This is one of my greatest achievements in my time. Also, we have waterways from Kolkata to Karimganj, which will also be extended; The MoU with Bangladesh has already been signed by our Minister, Sarbananda Sonoval, Sir.

GPlus: What are the 5 other changes you will bring if you become an MP again?

KM: Two more tracks. One from Badarpur Ghat to Mizoram, and another from Silchar via Ramkrishna Nagar, Pashimganj. These are very important. Besides, one industry will be established here.

GPlus: People are commenting that the congressional candidate is quite strong. So what is your strategy to get people to vote for you?

KM: Why even vote for Congress? Congress is nothing. Congress has no government in Assam. It is the BJP government that is running Assam. And it goes without saying that Narendra Modi will become the Prime Minister. So why even bother voting for Congress?

Those who want development will vote for BJP.

GPlus: In your constituency, there are many Muslims and they are against CAA. So how do you plan to win their votes?

KN: No, no CAA influence. Even Muslims are supporting BJP now because they want development. For development they will vote for BJP.

GPlus: Does delineation help you in any way?

KM: Demarcation is nothing. It’s not a problem. People will vote.

GPlus: So, how confident are you?

KM: Absolutely 100%. It goes without saying that we will win.

GPlus: So who is your competitor this time? Congress or AIUDF?

KM: The Congress and the AIUDF are fighting among themselves for the second post.

GPlus: Since Karimganj borders Bangladesh, is there already an immigration or migration problem here?

KM: Not now. There is no immigration here. It happened once back.

GPlus: Congress claims AIUDF candidates are puppets of BJP. What are your comments on this?

KM: Look, BJP is BJP and Congress is Congress. I have already said that the Congress and the AIUDF are fighting for the second place.
