External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar strongly criticized the Western media. He said they criticize our democracy because they feel they are also political players in our elections, not because they lack information.
Jaishankar was addressing a forum of nationalist thinkers in Hyderabad on Tuesday. He also said, “I have heard many times from the Western media criticism of our democracy. It is not because they lack information. It is because they feel that they are also political players in our elections.
In an article in the Western media we asked why elections are held in such a scorching heat in India? To this he said, ‘I read this article now and I want to say listen, my lowest turnout that summer is higher than your highest in the best of times.’ He also said that these are games that are played with us.
This is our internal politics going global
The foreign minister said, ‘This is politics. This is our internal politics going global. There are global politics which feel that now they need to penetrate India. How can these people decide who controls them without consulting us?
However, he insisted, ‘They (the West) really think they are part of our electorate. I think it’s about time we abused them and the best way to do it is with confidence.
Will raise questions about everyone
He said they will question your election system, your EVM, your election commission and even the weather. The Foreign Minister further said, ‘And one complaint is that the High Court is so unfair, the High Court thinks it is going to achieve a huge victory.’ He said that in a sense today we are at a very important crossroads.
Jaishankar said that the decision the government will take is not only for the next five years. This will give a huge vote of confidence to our country, our society and our future generations. He said it was a guarantee, the guarantee is an expression of trust. This is an expression of trust that we have given in the last 10 years.
