Wild footage has revealed the drastic measures being taken to protect attendees of this year’s Royal Sydney Easter Show, with every display bag being tested.

Of the more than 400 display bags tested, only one item has been removed, with video footage showing a child’s toy wand being smashed into pieces by a NSW Fair Trading inspector.

The dangerous choking hazard was discovered when an inspector applied some pressure to the toy and a plastic diamond broke off.

The hand wand inside the Fairy Image display bag has since been removed.

The inspectors were tasked with searching the bags for missing warning labels and products containing toxic chemicals and cosmetics, which are banned.

Better Regulation and Fair Trading Minister Anoulack Chanthivong said more than two million people were expected to attend the Royal Sydney Easter Show and one of the first places people went was the display bag pavilion.

“Whether their favorite display bag is Barbie, Bertie Beetle or Paw Patrol, display bag buyers can be sure that every item sold has been checked to ensure the toys and novelty items are safe for the whole family,” he said.

“I am extremely proud of the excellent levels of compliance shown by the display bag vendors this year, with only one non-compliant item found among the 403 types of display bags on offer for sale .

“This continues the trend over recent years of fewer non-compliant items being found during NSW Fair Trading pre-show inspections.”

The Royal Easter Show started on March 22 and runs until April 1 at Sydney Olympic Park.
