In the coming decades, the fertile region around the Ganges and the Indus may become a focus for extreme events due to climate change. Due to these, very fertile areas will be damaged. The combined effects of extreme weather events will have a profound impact on millions of people year after year. These extreme weather events include events such as heat waves, heavy rain, floods, droughts, storms, etc.
Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology and the University of Augsburg have expressed concern about the negative effects of climate change in their latest study. His results were published in the Journal of Hydrometeorology. Researchers focused on mixed extreme events involving water and climate. His aim was to find out how often these mixed events could wreak havoc in India in the future and which regions would be most affected by them. To prevent rising temperatures, researchers emphasized measures such as investing in seeds that are able to withstand heat and drought and building dams.
Emphasis on four possible scenarios
The study is based on four possible future scenarios involving greenhouse gas emissions. Each scenario also takes into account future changes in carbon dioxide emissions, including population growth, resource distribution, technological advances and lifestyle changes. These scenarios serve as internally consistent blueprints for future realities to come.
