The burden of disease is increasing rapidly all over the world including India. The situation is that for the first time in the last three decades, the number of patients worldwide has crossed the figure of 288 crores. The biggest disease in India between 2010 and 2021 was corona infection, which affected more than 50 percent of the country’s population. This also includes such patients who were not tested due to lack of symptoms or for some other reason, because of which they managed to stay away from the government figures.

This information was revealed in the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 report published by the world-famous medical journal The Lancet, in which a total of 371 diseases in 204 countries were evaluated between 1990 and 2021. This said that the pattern of leading diseases in India changed between 2010 and 2021. Until 2010, India had the highest number of cases of neonatal disorders, falling to third place in the first two years of the corona epidemic. India had the highest number of corona infection cases in 2020 and 2021. After Corona, heart disease has become the second most common disease in India, which also includes cases of heart attack.

More stroke, respiratory and stomach patients in India

According to the report, apart from corona infection, heart diseases and neonatal disorders, COPD, stroke, other diseases related to the epidemic, respiratory infections, stomach infections, tuberculosis and diabetes are the leading diseases in India with the highest number of patients. A senior professor at the University of Washington In America, Simon I said in the report that the whole world including India faced the Corona epidemic and because of this there was a big difference in the nature of the diseases.

HIV diarrhea cases decreased by 47%

A new report by The Lancet revealed that cases such as HIV/AIDS and diarrhea have dropped by about 47 percent. Similarly, much better gains have also been achieved in communicable diseases, maternal and child health, and nutrition.

Infections in children, heart diseases are very common in youth

The highest number of infection cases is recorded in children aged zero to 10 years in hospitals in India. At the same time, heart disease cases are highest among the adult population. The contribution of heart attack in the annual deaths in India has also increased significantly. Neglected tropical diseases, other infectious diseases including malaria, maternal and newborn disorders and malnutrition remain the greatest health challenges for Indian children.
