Seoul: A pop star has faced massive opposition to building a mosque in Korea. Local residents have protested South Korean YouTuber and former Korean pop star Daud Kim to build a mosque in Incheon.

This is the second attempt to build a mosque for Jae Kim, who converted to Islam in 2020 and changed his name to Daud Kim. Currently, his attempt to build a mosque is facing opposition from locals and accusations of fraud.

Daoud Kim, who has 5.55 million YouTube subscribers, shared on Instagram that he wants to build more places for Muslims to pray in South Korea.

Lots of obstacles
Pop star Daoud Kim bought 284.4 square meters of land on Incheon’s Yongjong Island for 189.2 million won ($136,500) to build a mosque. But Daoud Kim’s ambitious plan to build a mosque in Incheon, part of Seoul’s Capital District, faces many obstacles, including the end of a land deal, administrative roadblocks, allegations of fraud and opposition from locals.

Request to donate online
Pop star David Kim They shared their bank details online and asked them to donate money to build a mosque. He asked his YouTube subscribers to contribute. But the local community has objected to building a mosque near schools and residential areas.

South Korean population profile
According to 2015 census data, of South Korea’s population of 50 million, about 56% are atheists, 19% are Protestants, followed by Korean Buddhists (15.5%) and Catholics (8%).
