Birmingham: Star sprinter Hima Das did not qualify for the women’s 200m final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Friday. India’s Hima Das clocked 23.42 seconds in the 200 semi-final to finish third. Namibia’s Christine Mpoma finished first with 22.93 seconds, while Australia’s Ella Connolly was just one second faster than Hima.

Overall, Hima Das, ranked 10th out of 24 semi-finalists, missed qualifying for the final by 0.02 seconds. The Indian sprinter has set a personal record of 22.88 seconds in the 200m race. While the fastest sprinters in each round in the heats qualify automatically, the other two fastest sprinters among the non-automatic qualifiers advance to the playoffs.

Hima is a former junior world champion and also won a silver medal in the women’s 400m at the 2018 Asian Games. Hima Das will compete in the women’s 4x100m next Saturday.
