The Congress on Sunday said its previous government in Rajasthan had passed a series of visionary laws to significantly improve the quality of life of thousands in the state and asked why the current BJP dispensation was “rolling back” pro-people schemes.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posed the questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his rallies in Jalora and Baneswara.

“Why is the BJP government rolling back INC’s pro-people schemes? Is the Prime Minister favoring his fellow businessmen over Rajasthan’s rural communities? Why is ERCP still not designated as a national project,” asked Ramesh in a post on X.

Elaborating on what he said were “Joomla details”, Ramesh said when the Congress was in power in Rajasthan, it passed a series of visionary laws that would significantly improve the quality of life of thousands in the state.

“Rajasthan’s Guaranteed Minimum Income Act, extension of 25 days to MGNREGA (Rural) beyond the mandated 100 days, Indira Gandhi Shahari Rojgar Yojana Act which ensured 100 days of work for families living in urban areas, Rajasthan’s gig-based workers platform (Registration and Welfare Act), and the Right to Health Act that provided universal health coverage — all of these programs provided vital protections to vulnerable populations,” he said.

“Instead of these actions being implemented, we are now seeing a breakdown in governance since the BJP came to power in December 2023,” the Congress leader alleged.

At least 15.5 lakh pensioners in Rajasthan have not received their pension since January this year due to “verification” issues, he claimed.
