Canberra residents say an Alice-Springs-style curfew is needed to curb anti-social behavior in the city.

The call follows a series of drunken incidents in the streets of the city, as well as in the Senedd-dy, with some residents saying that the situation is getting out of control.

“You can’t walk past a flower bed or into a Senate Committee Hearing these days without someone drunk babbling on incoherently,” said one Canberra resident.

While the Alice Springs curfew applies to residents under 18, the Canberra version would apply to those over 50. “That’s where the majority of the problem seems to be,” said another resident.

To solve the problem in Canberra, experts say a curfew would be needed between 8pm and 8am, as is the case in Alice Springs. And another curfew between 8am and 8pm.

The National Party has opposed the suggestion, saying it would be ‘impractical’. “It would put our entire organization out of business,” a spokesman said.
