There is a major update for the beneficiaries of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). Earlier it was said that this card will have to be linked to the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) within 30 days. Now the Director General of Central Government Health Schemes in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a new Office Memorandum ‘OM’ on 15th April. In this framework, the deadline for preparing an ‘ABHA’ ID card has been extended. Besides, the time period for linking CGHS ID with Ayushman Bharat Health Account has also been extended.

ABHA extension deadline

Earlier, it was said that the process of linking the ID card and ABHA of the CGHS beneficiaries will start from April 1. Various ministries and departments of the central government were asked to complete the work within thirty days. The deadline for submitting the Abha certificate has now been extended. This deadline was extended by three months (90 days) from June 30. At the same time, the time period for linking the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) ID card to the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) has also been extended. It was increased by 120 days. That means CGHS and ABHA will have to be linked within 120 days from June 30. To help the CGHS beneficiaries in this work, kiosks will be installed in all the health centres. These kiosks will start operating by June 30.

Last year the government denied

Last year, a screenshot of a WhatsApp chat (message) went viral on social media. It said that CGHS and Ayushman Bharat Health Account are linked. Many types of misconceptions spread among the beneficiaries through this message. Like, why does the government want to take this step? Should the rules of treatment in government and private hospitals be changed by this order? At that time the central government denied the message which went viral on social media. PIB Fact Check has declared it completely fake. An office memorandum issued by the Director General of Health Schemes in the central government on March 28 this year said that CGHS should be linked with the Ayushman Bharat Health Account.

The government can take some big decision

CGHS card will have to be linked to Ayushman Bharat health account within 30 days When this order came, workers started fearing that sooner or later the central government might take an important decision regarding CGHS. Fear that workers and pensioners may be diverted from CGHS. Treatment facilities for government employees in private hospitals may end. C. Sreekumar, member of the Standing Committee of the National Staff Side Council (JCM) and General Secretary of All India Defense Employees (AIDEF), wrote a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in this regard last week. It is said that labor organizations and JCM did not support this decision of the central government.

There was no need to take advice from the employees.

Sreekumar wrote in his letter, the decision of the Ministry of Health that it will now have to link the CGHS ID card to the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) of the Government of India is surprising. Central government employees were shocked by this decision. The Ministry of Health did not even consider it necessary to take the advice of the central workers’ organizations and the Standing Committee of the National Staff Side Council (JCM) before taking such a decision. However, in the meantime, a health ministry official informed the workers’ organization representative that there is no requirement to link the CGHS ID card with the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) of the Government of India. This decision will remain as an option.

The office memorandum must be withdrawn

According to Sreekumar, this is a well thought out step by the Indian government. Through this, an attempt was made to put pressure on the government employees to receive treatment only in the government hospitals. Employees, say hello to hospitals on behalf of CGHS. In such a situation, Shrikumar asked the health ministry to withdraw the ministry’s memorandum issued on March 28, which said to link the CGHS ID card to the Ayushman Bharat Health Account of the Government of India. A meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Team Side Council (JCM) should also be called in this regard. All aspects of the employees must be heard in it.
