New Delhi: Today ie Saturday, March 30, President Draupadi Murmu honored 5 personalities from the country with the highest civilian honor Bharat Ratna. These included former Chief Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, PV Narasimha Rao, agricultural scientist Dr MS Swaminathan, and former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur. Senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani was also to be honored with Bharat Ratna, but today he did not attend Rashtrapati Bhavan due to personal reasons. In such a situation, now on March 31, the President will visit his house and honor him.

Except Advani, all the 4 personalities are given Bharat Ratna posthumously. His family has received this honor from the President. The awards given to Rao, Singh, Thakur and Swaminathan were received by their family members. For former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao, this Murmu honor was received by his son PV Prabhakar Rao. For Chaudhary Charan Singh, his grandson and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chaudhary received the honor from the President.
Swaminathan’s daughter Nitya Rao and Karpoori Thakur’s son Ramnath Thakur received the award from President Murmu. Today, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries attended this special ceremony.
