GUWAHATI: About 300 students staged a demonstration at BRM Government Law College on April 25, 2024, airing their grievances on various issues. The protest, which lasted from 9:45 to 14:00, was due to the prolonged absence of electricity in the college since April 5, 2024.

In a conversation with GPlus, the students highlighted a multitude of concerns, including the lack of drinking water facilities, non-functional toilets, unrepaired water boring systems, unpleasant odors in the classrooms, failure to hold events despite collecting funds from the students, lack of elections for the union body, lack of bar association registration, and not issuing identity cards to students.

Tapobrat Narayan Deb, a second year BA LLB student, expressed his frustration and stated, "We have been without electricity at our college for the past few weeks. In addition to this, we face several other problems such as the lack of drinking water, clogged bathrooms and poor infrastructure. A year has passed since the last elections for the union body were held. Yesterday, when the authorities were notified of the visit by higher education officials, they hastily cleaned up the campus to gloss over our complaints."

Another student seeking anonymity talks to GPlus, "The time has come for us to raise our voices against the authorities who are neglecting their responsibilities. Without a properly elected union body, who will address our grievances? Although we technically have one, no elections have been held in the last year. This negligence is unacceptable."
