A man has been arrested after a car deliberately drives into a Montreal police cruiser Achi-News

A 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with an incident involving a suspect who intentionally drove a car into a Montreal Police Department (SPVM) cruiser “in order to evade police interception.”

According to the force, the incident happened on April 22 near the intersection of Masson Street and 18e Avenue in the Rosemont-La Petite-Patri district.

“The suspect managed to escape following the incident, which took place around 3:00 p.m.,” the police state. “The investigation… located the getaway vehicle on Baudelaire Street in the San Leonard district.”

The man was arrested on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. while he was walking on Sherbrooke East Street in the Mercier-Hochlege-Maizenau district.

The suspect is expected to appear in court in Montreal on Wednesday to face charges including assault with a weapon, dangerous driving, fleeing the scene, theft of more than $5,000, receiving stolen property and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The Montreal police reiterates that “attacking police officers is simply unacceptable”.

“Such acts will not be tolerated in our society,” the force insists. “Those who commit them will be arrested and answer for their actions.”
