Meteorologists have expressed a 55% chance that 2024 will be the hottest year on record. Not only that, they expressed a 99% probability that this year will be included in the five hottest years. This claim was made in a recent report by the National Center for Environmental Information (NCEI) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
According to the report, the average temperature in March was recorded 1.35 degrees Celsius higher than the average March temperature in the 20th century. This is the 48th March in a row that the temperature has been above the 20th century average temperature. It is not that the effect of the temperature increase was limited only to the earth, its effect was also recorded on the oceans. According to the report, sea surface temperatures were above average in most areas during March 2024. The average sea temperature was recorded 1.01 degrees above normal. Earlier in 2016, the highest sea surface temperature was recorded at 0.83 degrees Celsius.
The effect of rising temperatures was recorded in every corner of the planet.
According to the report, temperatures remained above average in much of Africa, Europe and South America, as well as eastern North America, eastern Asia and eastern Australia in March 2024. At the same time, parts of western North America, central Asia and western Australia were much colder than average. While Africa and South America faced their hottest March on record, it was the second hottest March in Europe.
