Jammu: A three-day theater festival to commemorate World Theater Day has begun at Natrang Studio Theatre, Kachi Chawni Jammu.

The festival started with the staging of the play ‘Tauba Tauba’. The play is written by Rajinder Kumar Sharma and directed by Neeraj Kant. Covered in humour, the play presented some controversial issues which face many theater groups due to the lack of commitment of a few artists which ruined the whole performance. But still, he was more inclined to comedy than to be didactic.

The play opens in the home of one ‘Anokhe Lal’ which has been converted into a rehearsal space as he is the director of the play which is to be staged in a few days. The drama explodes as the play progresses and it seems that no one is serious about rehearsing except the director. The artists who used to plead for one entry for the play have now become pathetic and have come up with different excuses not to rehearse. On top of it all, the newly appointed servant adds to the confusion as he finds a new problem every time he enters the room.

‘Anokhe Lal’ was very worried about the performance of the play as nothing was going right, actors forgetting the lines, people coming late to the rehearsal, and on top of that, the tickets for the show has already been sold. The ultimate crisis occurs when the director finds out that the actor playing the role of the hero’s father is not doing the play as he has to go out of the station to do some personal work. Shattered by this unfavorable news, he decides to prepare his newly appointed servant to play the role of the father in the play, who reluctantly agrees but real trouble erupts when the real father of ‘Anokhe Lal’ arrives the servant introduced himself to him as the father ‘Anokhe Lal’ and the servant and Anokhe Lal were given a thorough beating by the real father.

Natrang actors who performed in the drama included Vishal Sharma, Aadesh Dhar, Kananpreet Kaur, Chaitanya Shekhar, and Sanket Bhagat. The lighting of the play was executed by Neeraj Kant Sharma and the show was coordinated by Mohd. Yasen.
