New Delhi: Lieut Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi will be the country’s new navy chief. He will take up the new role on April 30 after the retirement of the current Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar.
Vice Admiral Tripathi, a graduate of Sainik Reva School, currently serves as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff and will be the most senior officer in the Navy when Admiral Kumar retires.
The government complied with the seniority order while appointing her to the top position in the Navy.
Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, who currently serves as the Chief of Staff, could be the next Vice Chief of the Navy.
“The government has appointed Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who currently serves as the Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff, as the next Chief of the Naval Staff as of the afternoon of April 30,” the Ministry of Defense said.
Vice Admiral Tripathi was born on 15 May 1964 and joined the Indian Navy on 1 July 1985.
A communications and electronic warfare expert, Vice Admiral Tripathi has had a long and distinguished career spanning nearly 30 years.
Before assuming the position of Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff, he was the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.
He also commanded INS Vinash, Kirch and Trishul.
He has also served in various important roles, including Chief Naval Operations Officer of the Western Fleet, Director of Naval Operations, Chief Director, Central Network Operations and Chief Director, Naval Programs.
As an admiral, he was the commanding flag officer of the Eastern Fleet.
He was also the Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy, Azimala.
A graduate of Sainik School and National Defense Academy Khadkawasala, Vice Admiral Tripathi has also undergone courses at Naval War College, Goa and Naval War College, USA.
He was also awarded the AVSM and the Navy Medal.
