Mumbai: As the election frenzy continues, residents of East Mulund find it difficult to leave their homes at night by the light of portable torches. As electricity bills of more than 15 lakh stand for more than 40 street lights here, the locals are facing various problems due to interruption of direct power supply by Mahavitaran.
Senior citizens of Mehda Colony in East Mulund, which has a population of more than 10,000, are the most affected. The electricity supply to the street lights here has been interrupted for two days. According to Ravi Naik, the president of the Mahda Colonies Company, the electricity supply of about 47 street lights was cut off. Being a colony along the stream, the place is prone to snake bites.
1) Due to fear of darkness and snakes, the residents are not allowed to take their children out of their homes, and there is also a fear of robbing the citizens sneaking through the streets while taking advantage of the darkness.
2) It is wrong for ordinary people to get involved in internal conflicts within the administration. It is necessary for the elderly to take immediate action and find a solution.
No proper follow-up by Mahvidran –
Mahbitran collects electricity bills for 10 years. So far no account has been spent by the municipality. The bill is approved by sending appropriate information and documents regarding street lighting to the concerned department. However, proper documents were not submitted by Mahavitra regarding the rising amount. The municipality has not paid the electricity bill since last August. Correspondence is going on with the concerned department since last year. Even the message given to them was not answered. A mistake by distribution officers –
When we contacted the electricity department in the municipality regarding this matter, they said that there are no arrears, and the bill is imposed due to a mistake by officials of the Mahawithran company.
Direct disconnection of the power supply is wrong. On the other hand, despite proper follow-up on the part of the Bittern, the municipal administration ignores it.
