Amid opposition allegations of targeting opposition leaders by central investigative agencies during the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission on Tuesday said the commission is committed to upholding equal rights. The committee emphasized that it is not right to take any step that overlaps with legal and legal proceedings. Let us tell you, many political parties included in the Indian Union have demanded that the Election Commission intervene in the alleged misuse of investigative agencies by the central government to target their leaders in corruption cases.

The Election Commission said in a statement published on Tuesday that this action was done on constitutional grounds in light of the current situation. The operation was done on the basis of court orders and an investigation. In a statement, the commission said that we are committed to protecting the level playing field of political parties and candidates, but taking any step that overlaps or overrides the legal process is wrong.

Action taken in 169 cases out of 200 complaints

In addition, the committee announced that within a month of the implementation of the model code of conduct, 16 delegations from seven political parties submitted their complaints on related issues, including violations of the model code of conduct. Various political parties and candidates submitted about 200 complaints to the Election Commission and at the state level, of which steps were taken in 169 cases. A total of 51 complaints were received from BJP, out of which action was taken on 38 complaints. At the same time, 59 complaints were received from Congress, of which actions were taken in 51 cases. 90 complaints were received from non-BJP-Congress parties, of which action was taken in 80 cases.

Keep a close eye on problematic leaders

With the completion of one month of implementation of the model code of conduct, the commission said they were generally satisfied with the compliance of the code by political parties. The campaigns of various parties and candidates remained largely chaos-free. At the same time, there is close monitoring of troublesome leaders and candidates.
