According to the report, Tesla is looking for an area of 3,000-5,000 square feet for its showroom. Besides, it also wants to create service centers in these cities. The company plans to start its sales in India by the end of this year.
Musk is going to India next week

Musk will invest 2-3 billion dollars in India

Musk said- India should also have an EV like other countries
Musk said at X this week that India should have electric cars like any other country. It has become imperative to make Tesla electric vehicles available in India. Musk is coming to India at a time when elections are supposed to be held here. At the same time, demand for EVs has slowed in the American and Chinese markets. Tesla also faces competition from Chinese automakers.
Tesla wants to build a factory to manufacture cars and store batteries
- On April 3, the British Financial Times reported that Tesla will send a team to India this month to look for a location for a $2 to $3 billion ($16,000 to $25,000) electric car manufacturing plant in the country. .
- The report said that the team’s focus for the electric car manufacturing plant will be in auto hub states like Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. This is because of the ports of these states, from which exporting cars will be easy.
- Tesla wants to manufacture and sell battery storage systems along with electric cars in India. The company gave a proposal to the Indian authorities for this.
There was no agreement between Tesla and the government in 2022
- Tesla expressed its desire to reach India in 2022, but negotiations between the company and the government could not be reached. Tesla demanded that the government reduce the import duty on composite vehicles from 100% to 40%.
- The company wanted its vehicles to be considered electric and not luxury vehicles, but the government said it had no intention of waiving or reducing import duties on electric vehicles imported from other countries.
- The government has said that if Tesla commits to setting up a manufacturing plant in India, then an import exemption will be considered. However, Musk wanted cars to be sold in India first, after which a factory would be considered.
- Also, responding in a tweet on May 27, 2022, Elon Musk said, “Tesla will not build a manufacturing plant anywhere it does not already have permission to sell and service cars.”
Union Minister Piyush Goyal came to the Tesla factory in November last year.
Goyal learned about the car at Tesla’s manufacturing facility and met the Indian engineers who worked there.

Tesla currently has four electric cars
