India to remain locust free this year – survey

The survey found that India was ambush-free in the first two weeks of the year. During this survey 165 places were examined, mostly in the desert regions of Gujarat and Rajasthan. The report states that India is free from desert locust activities. During the survey the desert area was found to be dry and vegetation was found to be green in some places in Suratgarh.

Based on data from the World Organization FAO, the survey said that the situation regarding locusts is calm in Iran, Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. Apart from this, some light activities were seen in Dalband in the northern region of Balochistan. This report states that the conditions are not favorable for locust breeding in the desert region of India.

Locust created a food security crisis in 2020

Let us tell you that locusts have the ability to destroy crops. If these are in a large group, they can endanger food safety. The locust threat was seen in Pakistan in early 2020, when a national emergency was declared for Oro. At the same time, large scale locust invasion was also seen in Indian states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, some areas of Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Swarms of locusts in India were first seen in the Rajasthan districts bordering Pakistan in early April. During that period this herd caused enormous damage to the crop. However, the locust swarm remains confined to Rajasthan.
