A number of students started a camp at McGill University calling on the institution to sever financial ties with Israel.
Photos shared on social media show protesters joining hands in a circle around several tents that appear to have been erected on Saturday.
The protesters shouted “disengage now” and “free Palestine”. Posters circulating online of state students from McGill University and Concordia attending the event to send the message to university administration that students “refuse to let their universities be complicit in genocide.”
The encampment is similar to those in several US cities in recent days, when anti-war demonstrations intensified on university campuses and called for an end to the massacre of civilians in Gaza.
