New Delhi: Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is in trouble. A Delhi court has ordered framing of charges in connection with a sexual harassment case filed against him by women wrestlers. The Roose Avenue Court in Delhi on Friday said there was enough evidence to charge Brij Bhushan in five of the six cases. But the court dismissed the 6th case against him.
The court said charges would be framed against the accused under Sections 354 and 354D of the Indian Penal Code in the retrial of five cases. The court asked the second accused Vinod Tomar to frame charges under Section 506 (Part 1) of the IPC on the allegations of one victim. He was acquitted of the rest of the charges against him. Tomar is the suspended Assistant Secretary of WFI.
What is the cause?
The court had earlier rejected Singh’s plea seeking time for further investigation. Singh claimed that he was not in India on the date of an incident where a complainant alleged that he was harassed at the WFI office.
Singh’s counsel relied on the Delhi Police call detail records (CDR) of the coach accompanying the complainant. She went to WFI on September 7, 2022, where she claimed she was harassed. However, the lawyer claimed that the police had not kept a record of the CDR.
