Four people were injured in stone pelting during the Ram Navami procession in East Midnapore, West Bengal. A senior police officer said that when Ram Nami’s procession passed through Igra College at 9:10 pm on Wednesday, some people threw stones at it. At this point, four people were arrested in this case. Earlier, in Marshidabad too, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of inciting violence over stone-pelting during the Ram Naami procession.
The officer said the police had to resort to the use of a canister to disperse the crowd. “Increased security in the area. We are investigating the issue. Four people were arrested. The situation is currently under control,” he said. BJP leader and party candidate from Midnapore, Agnimitra Pal and other workers protested against the stone pelting by blocking the road.
Apart from this, an incident of clash came to light during the Ram Nami procession in Murshidabad on Wednesday. About 20 people were injured due to throwing stones from roofs during the procession. The BJP has ousted Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) party for stone-pelting at the Ram Naami procession. Along with this, BJP also accused the state police of supporting the miscreants. The Bengal unit of the BJP claimed that stones were pelted at the rally and shops were vandalized. After the incident, prohibition orders were imposed in the area according to Article 144.
