A St. Albert, Alta., organization that provides community support for LGBTQ2 individuals announced it has ceased operations effective Friday.
In a statement on social media, the Outloud Foundation said it ceased operations on May 3, and that “their last event will be a crosswalk painting at 11 a.m. on May 26 in front of City Hall.”
“We hope this will be our legacy event and are proud of the support the city has provided us. (We) thank the individual and corporate sponsors for their support. It’s been ten amazing years,” the announcement reads.
The organization celebrated its 10th anniversary in March.

“The needs of our vulnerable young people are still incredibly important, and we hope that their needs will continue to be met,” the statement continued.
In a separate post to social media, Outload founder Terry Sutaert said the organization could not continue financially.
“Over the past year the funds have continued to dwindle more and more, harder and harder to come by. We’ve held on and held until now but we can’t anymore. I haven’t taken a salary for 9 of my 10 years at Outload to keep it alive.” Sotart said. “I have taken on many roles in recent years; Doorman, builder, accountant, cheerleader, attorney, mover, float builder, managing director and now as a fundraiser.”
“As a co-founder with my daughter Mia, I understand and know that this latest decision has created great emotions,” he continued. “I’m heartbroken and devastated too.”
