Mandla (Madhya Pradesh): Farmers of three villages in Keolari assembly constituency under Mandla-Seoni Lok Sabha seat have announced a boycott of voting in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections alleging difficulty in selling their wheat produce. On Tuesday, two days before the phase one elections, the farmers said they will boycott the voting to bring to the attention of the authorities that there is no wheat procurement center in their village.

According to information, farmers in the Seoni area are facing ongoing problems when selling their wheat. Now, because a wheat procurement center has not been constructed in Kharsaru village assembly constituency in Keolari, the farmers of Kharsaru, Mohgaon and Khapa villages are very upset.

Procurement center 15km away

Farmer Girwar Singh Baghel said that the Kharsaru Wheat Procurement Center has been closed and the wheat of the farmers of these villages is being bought at the Baglai Chaudhary Warehouse which is about 15 kilometers away from Kharsaru. This arrangement has caused many difficulties for the farmers.

“Due to the shifting of the Kharsaru wheat procurement centre, the laborers of these villages who used to work at the procurement center have also suffered losses,” said farmer Vijendra Singh Rajput.

No meeting was held by authorities

The farmers of the area have made a continuous request to the concerned officials and public representatives demanding the reopening of the Kharsaru Wheat Procurement Centre, but no hearing was held.

Now angry farmers have announced a boycott of the Lok Sabha election polls to be held on 19 April. Slogans were also raised demanding a procurement centre.
