In this fast-growing world, where robotic technology is also becoming a part of people’s lives at a similar pace, the American engineering and robotics company Boston Dynamics on Wednesday unveiled the next generation of the Atlas humanoid robot.

“The next generation of the Atlas program builds on decades of research and advances our commitment to deliver the most capable and useful mobile robots that solve the toughest challenges in the industry today: with Spot, with Stretch and now with Atlas,” said Boston Dynamics.

He said that in the months and years ahead, he will see “what the world’s most dynamic humanoid robot can really do,” not just in the lab, but in the factory and in people’s lives.

This version of Atlas will be “stronger, with a wider range of motion than” any of its predecessors. In one of the demo videos on the Boston Dynamics website, you can see that the previous generation Atlas hydraulic robot can lift heavy and move a wide variety of objects.

In collaboration with Hyundai, it will “test and iterate on Atlas applications over the next few years.”

Sharing a video of the new robot in X, Boston Dynamics wrote, “We promise it’s not a human in a bodysuit.”

In the video you can see the robot folding its knees over its body and standing up, the scene looks like straight out of a sci-fi horror movie. Then he stands up, turns 180 degrees and approaches the camera, then moves away.

In response to the company’s new post about the robot, netizens expressed their thoughts in several ways. One user wrote, “BD: ‘We need to make it look friendly and human’. Also BD: ‘Make it stand like it needs an exorcism.'”

“You need to rewatch the frame,” another user wrote, referring to the Arnold Schwarzenegger film. Another user wrote, “Maybe not a man in a suit but it still looks scary.”

Another person wrote, “Someone has been watching a lot of #LostInSpace on @BostonDynamic.”
