ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) The virus development market is booming with advanced knowledge targeting malware like Loma virus and other malware. Hacking viruses infiltrate devices to illegally obtain sensitive data such as logins and passwords, which are then marketed in the shadow market, making cyber security critical to personal and corporate systems. The illegal market for the development of data-stealing malware is expanding, as evidenced by the growing popularity of malware used to steal information. Between 2021 and 2023, the proportion of infections caused by new data-stealing viruses increased from 4 percent to 28 percent. In particular, in 2023, the new “Lumma” virus was responsible for more than 6% of all infections.

Hafeez Rehman, manager of Kaspersky’s technical group, says that the Loma virus came out in 2022, and its popularity has increased due to its working model, where it is installed as a service on devices. This means that any criminal, even one without advanced technical skills, can purchase a subscription to a pre-built malicious solution and then use the information-targeting virus to launch a cyber attack. Loma is primarily designed to steal data and other information from cryptocurrency wallets, which are usually disseminated via email, YouTube. To protect against data-stealing malware, individuals are advised to use a comprehensive security solution for any device. Companies can help their customers, employees and partners protect themselves from threats by continuously monitoring for leaks and encouraging users to change leaked passwords immediately.
