Police in Thane, Maharashtra have arrested three people of a bookie gang during a raid on a hotel. Another accused used to run the gang, his search is on. In IPL, this gang used to call people and make them bet.

The Thane, Maharashtra police received information that some people at a hotel in Bhiwandi were inviting people to bet on cricket matches during an IPL match. On Thursday evening, the Crime Branch, Special Task Force and Anti-Extortion Squad of Thane police raided the hotel in Kungaon, Bhiwandi between 7.30 am and 11 pm.

During the raid on Thursday, three bookies were found betting on the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad. All three were caught red-handed. Another associate of his is running this whole gang from Chhattisgarh and he is wanted.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivraj Patil said on Friday that these bookies were nabbed after conducting an operation. The main accused who runs this gang is in Chhattisgarh. All three used to use mobile applications for gambling. These three collected around Rs 11,86,811 from people. The same Accused sitting in Chhattisgarh collected Rs 7,03,000 Shannu Lalit Briwal (31) and Vijay Sitaram Devgan (40) were arrested in the raid.First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Kungaon police station under sections 420 (cheating), 465, 468, 471 (all related to forgery) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the officer said.

SIM purchased with fake documents

According to the information received from the police, the three defendants who were caught gambling purchased several SIM cards by using forged documents. During the raid, the officers found about 12 mobile phones from the trio. Apart from this, a tablet and a laptop were also found. An object worth about Rs 1.97 lakh was seized by the police.

The operation began to take hold of the bookie’s head

Assistant Commissioner of Police Shahar Bagdan said that the three arrested bookmakers were operated by a person from Chhattisgarh. All three bookmakers said that this group operates closely in Chhattisgarh. The police launched an operation to investigate the fourth accused.
