International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Krishnamurthy V Subramaniam on Tuesday said India will remain the driver of global growth in the near future. He said India has seen a sustained growth of more than 7 percent since the Covid pandemic. He estimated India’s growth rate in the fourth quarter by 8% Subramaniam called this good growth given the current global economic situation.

When asked about India’s position in the current world economy, he replied: ‘I think India will continue to be the driver of global growth in the near future. I expect India’s growth rate to remain consistently above 7 percent this decade. You will remember September 2021, when I was also in the government. I predicted that India will emerge from the corona epidemic with more than 7 percent growth. Therefore, I continue to maintain this assessment.

India’s former chief economic adviser, Subramaniam, said the International Monetary Fund had revised its growth forecast for India in 2024 to 7.8 percent. He emphasized that this shows a general development.

When asked how the Indian economy was perceived at the IMF meetings held in the US, he said, so if you look at the Indian economy now, it has grown continuously by more than 7 percent since the corona. And then it increased this year. In the first three quarters there was an increase of 8.2 percent, 8.1 percent and 8.4 percent. So even though the growth rate is much lower than 7.3 percent, if that happens then India’s average growth rate in the fourth quarter will actually be 8 percent. I think that is a very good growth (growth) in the current global economic situation.
