Vannamei shrimp can be grown in Ukraine. This species is the undisputed leader in the world both in terms of breeding and consumption. Technologist of Wismar Aqua LLC Lyubomir Haydamaka writes about this in his column on Agrotimes, writes agronews.ua.
“Why Vannamei shrimp? First, this species is completely domesticated, with many genetic lines improved in terms of disease resistance, fast growth, different levels of water salinity, etc., he emphasizes. ‒ Genetic and breeding centers around the world ensure the emergence of modern breed lines that will demonstrate results excellence.”
Second, the Vannamei shrimp is not territorial and aggressive towards members of its kind, so it can be grown in dense plantings.
“For growing in a number of stages in a realistic hot room to go through 6 cycles per year and a cubic meter of water, 42 kg of quality products can be obtained. With the use of pure oxygen and other additional technologies, the density of planting can be significantly increased,” Lubomir Haydaka clarifies.
Third, Vannamei is rapidly gaining marketable mass. In less than 3 months (nursery stage – 4 weeks, in culture – 8 weeks), you can obtain a premium product that will rightfully be called king shrimp.
Fourth, the breeding technology of this species is well developed.
“Even without the involvement of a technologist, you can learn how to breed Vannamei shrimp,” says Lubomir Haydaka.
