Former Indian cricketer and TMC candidate Yusuf Pathan, who is contesting for the Harampur Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal, began his campaign in full swing for the Lok Sabha elections and spoke to the media on Thursday, April 18. While talking to the media he was accused of being an outsider, for which he gave the example of Prime Minister Modi and said that he is also contesting elections from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh via Gujarat.

In the Lok Sabha elections, Yusuf Pathan is pitted against Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary from the Harampur Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. Yusuf started the election rally in the country. This is Yosef’s first rally in the country, during which he was among the people and talked to the media. Among the questions asked to Yusuf, one of the reporters asked him how difficult it is to run in elections from the outside. To this he replied that I don’t think I’m an outsider. He further said that the biggest example is that our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is contesting elections in another place through another state, Prime Minister is contesting elections from Varanasi through Gujarat. He said he was here to stay in politics and stay connected with the townspeople, who had already accepted him as one of their own. Joseph called Baharampur his home. During the conversation he said that he was very lucky to have reached a place where people accepted him wholeheartedly and said that people are telling me that we will not let you go from here. He said that no matter the outcome, the people here have accepted me as their son, brother or friend, I will always remain connected to them for the better future they deserve. When he described his power to the people, he said that these people are my power and ‘Inshallah’ I will win.

People are very disappointed with Adir Ranjan Chaudhary

Talking about Congress leader Adir Ranjan Choudhary, Yusuf said I have a lot of respect for Adir Ranjan Choudhary, who is a senior leader, but when I talk to people, I hear in their voices about his absence during Covid. People have argued against Adir Ranjan that Choudhary has failed to bring central grants needed to create infrastructure and employment opportunities, besides people say he has not done enough for the people.

Yusuf said that when the party announced his name as a candidate, he was very confused about it. Later, when he talked to his close people, he felt that now he was getting a chance to return all the love and respect that people had given him till date. He said that after talking to people, I found out that I have to do a lot of work from here.
