Fern Britton’s ex-husband Phil Vickery has shared a cryptic message about ‘messing up something good’.
The former This Morning host, now a Celebrity Big Brother star, was married to TV chef Phil between 2000 and 2020.
Fern and Phil share one daughter together, Winnie, and although he has remained relatively tight-lipped about their relationship and split, he has now shared a cryptic message.
In a since-deleted Instagram story, Phil posted a quote that read: ‘Many people mess up something good, by looking for something better, to end up with something worse.’
The TV chef later added some snaps of delicious Easter treats, coffee and cake, and later an octopus salad, captioning them both ‘#happydays’.
Fern and Phil met on the set of Ready Steady Cook, and began dating after Fern, 66, separated from her then-husband, Clive Jones, whom she met while still married.
Announcing their divorce in 2020, the couple shared a joint statement, saying: ‘After more than 20 happy years together, Phil and I have decided to go our separate ways.’
He continued: ‘We will always share a great friendship and our lovely children. We would appreciate it if our privacy was respected at this time. Thank you for your kindness and continued support.’
The pair never said why they decided to go their separate ways, but Fern had once described him as ‘the love of her life … an amazing husband, partner, friend.’
Since then, Fern – who also has three children from her previous relationship with Jones – has previously spoken about ‘losing’ her marriage, saying shortly after the split: ‘I’m not afraid of change… The last three years have been very hard. ; I lost my parents, I lost my marriage.
‘I also lost my other home in Buckinghamshire, because Phil lives there now and I’m in Cornwall. But the magic I’ve found here is incredible.’
Fern went on to say that the world is now her ‘oyster’ and that she is ‘not alone but I’m in this transition period where I’m working out what’s next for me.’
The presenter also addressed her love life on Celebrity Big Brother, saying she doesn’t want to fall in love again.
He told Louis Walsh, according to MailOnline: ‘I’m ready to slow down, like you, I’ve been working hard since I was 20.’
The former X Factor judge agreed, saying: ‘You realize what life is, and realize why I haven’t done this before, why didn’t I go there, why didn’t I do that?’
‘Fern, if you choose the right person you’ll have a lot of fun, maybe you’ll fall in love.’
‘I don’t want to fall in love again,’ replied Fern.
During her time on Celebrity Big Brother, when she reached the final round, Fern hit the headlines after getting into a tiff with former Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, and spilled some tea on her feud with Phillip Schofield.
And while some fans loved her outspokenness, some of her housemates weren’t so keen.
Ahead of the final, Lauren Simon told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think Fern is playing a game if you want the truth, I don’t think she knows who she is or what she is. does it, she wants to win.’
Throwing her support behind Strictly Come Dancing star Nikita Kuzmin, she added: “I think Fern is playing a game and it’s disgusting what she’s done to him last night, trying to wind it up like our see the bad side of it so she can win. ‘
