Guwahati: A vehicle carrying an electronic voting machine (EVM) on Friday encountered a mishap in Assam’s Khimpur constituency when it partially submerged in a river due to sudden rise in water level.

The incident occurred after the mechanized boat transporting the vehicle was washed away by the fast-flowing water, thus partially drowning the vehicle.

Fortunately, both the driver and the polling officer on the vehicle were able to evacuate before the water flooded the vehicle, an official said.
According to reports, the vehicle was on its way to Amarpur area in Sadia to replace a faulty EVM following the detection of a technical glitch during the morning marking.
Speaking to GPlus, Lakhimpur district commissioner’s office said, “This happened today morning. We have returned the vehicle and the EVM after taking necessary measures. Everything is under control now.”
