It will not be easy for 2019 Congress MP Sanyamalai Jyotimani to maintain her and the Congress’s victory in Karur, the AIADMK stronghold in Tamil Nadu. Jyotihamani, who then defeated AIADMK’s M Thambidurai, became the first MP from Karur to come from a farming family. Jyoti Neta, a master’s degree graduate, is also a social worker and writer. His concern for social issues was a major factor in his victory in the last election.
Jyoti, who joined the Congress at the age of 22, was an active worker in the Indian Youth Congress for a long time. She is close to Rahul Gandhi. To regain the stronghold, AIADMK fielded KRL Thangavel, while BJP gave a chance to VV Senthilnathan. In such a situation, three-way competition is certain.
Jyotimani was part of Rahul’s youth wing in the 2011 assembly elections. The Congress then contested 63 seats in the DMK stronghold. Ironically, V Senthilbalaji, who defeated Jyotimina in the 2011 elections, became her chief election strategist in the 2019 parliamentary elections.
