New Delhi (A.16): War has started between Israel and Iran. The world now fears that the entire region will turn into a war zone, as Israel can retaliate at any moment to an Iranian attack.
Iran attacked Israel on Sunday with ballistic missiles and drones. However, Israel was able to destroy the missiles and thwart the Iranian attack. Meanwhile, the most shocking thing about Iran’s attack on Israel is that Jordan, despite being a Muslim country, sided with its enemy, Israel, leaving Iran.
In fact, in a surprise move, Iran attacked Israel early Sunday morning and fired 170 drones, more than 120 ballistic missiles and 30 cruise missiles. This attack by Iran has pushed West Asia closer to a regional war. Israel’s military says Iran fired several drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles, most of which were destroyed outside Israel’s borders. On April 1, Iran retaliated after an airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Syria killed two Iranian generals. Iran accused Israel of being behind the attack.
The US-Jordan also shot down an Iranian drone
When Iran attacked Israel with drones, ballistic and cruise missiles, not only America but also Jordan shot down dozens of Iranian drones and missiles. According to the United States, more than 70 drones and three ballistic missiles were intercepted by US Navy ships and military aircraft.
Now the question arises if America supports Israel, that is a natural thing, but since it is a Muslim country, why did Jordan support Israel and why did it destroy Iran’s missiles? After all, why did Jordan, who criticized Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu in Gaza, support the Israel-Iran war?
Jordan explained
Now Jordan has made an official statement about this and defended the incident when Iran destroyed the missiles. Jordan said Iran intercepted the drone in self-defense, not to help Israel. Jordan’s King Abdullah II’s response to support for Palestine is seen as a balancing act by Jordan, which does not want to be embroiled in Israel’s war against Iran’s ally, Hamas.
Notably, this is the first time Iran has directly attacked Israel since decades of hostility that began after the country’s Islamic revolution in 1979. Iran’s attack on Israel has been condemned by America, the United Nations, France and Britain.
How is the relationship between Jordan and Israel?
If we talk about the relationship between Jordan and Israel, both are enemy nations. Although Jordan and Israel signed a peace treaty in 1984, the two countries fought four wars between 1948 and 1973. Not only this, Jordan condemned Israel during the Hamas-Israel war.
At the same time, Israel has welcomed Jordan’s involvement in the Israel-Iran issue, but Palestine has condemned its role. Jordan’s population consists mainly of Palestinians. About 3 million Palestinians live in Jordan.
