Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat

Aurangabad is one of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra. There are a total of six assembly seats within the Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat. These include Kutumba, Aurangabad, Rafiganj, Gurua, Imamganj and Tikari seats. Kutumba and Imamganj are reserved seats. Aurangabad is a major city in Maharashtra and is located in the Marathwada region. This city is famous for its historical and cultural heritage. Aurangabad is an important historical centre, containing many ancient and medieval sculptures and historical sites. There are also historical monuments from the Mughal dynasty period here. Rulers like Bimbisara, Ajatashatru, Chandragupta Maurya and Emperor Ashoka ruled in Aurangabad.

Aurangabad is a large and famous district in Maharashtra and is home to the world famous Ajanta and Ellora caves. These caves are included on the World Heritage list. These caves were built in 200 BC. It is said that Aurangzeb spent a large part of his life here and also died here. This is also the tomb of Rabia Durrani who was Aurangzeb’s wife.

Initially a Congress stronghold, later a Shiv Sena threat

Talking about the political scenario of this seat, it was initially the stronghold of the Congress, but by 1999, Shiv Sena established its foothold here. When the Lok Sabha elections were held for the first time in 1952, Suresh Chandra of the Congress Party became an MP for the first time. After this, in 1957, the Congress gave a ticket to Swami Ramanand Teerth and he won. In 1962, the Congress changed its candidate and gave a ticket to Bhaurao Dagdu Rao Deshmukh and he also met the expectations of the party. He also won in 1967.

Janata Party victory in 1977

In the 1977 Lok Sabha elections, when there was a wave against the Congress in the country, the Janata Party opened its account on this seat and Bapu Kaldate became an MP. However, in the 1980 elections, this seat again went to the Congress and Qazi Salim became an MP from here. In the 1984 elections, the Congress gave a ticket to Sahebrao Dongaonkar from here and he also won. Between 1989 and 1996, Shiv Sena held this seat and Moreshwar Save and Pradeep Jaiswal became MPs.

Shiv Sena won in 1999

In the 1998 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress Party fielded Ramakrishna Baba Patil and was elected as an MP. After this, in 1999, this seat went to Shiv Sena and remained in its possession until 2014. In the 2019 elections, the political equations changed here and the public changed their mood and the seat went to AIMIM and Imtiaz Jalil became the MP of here. Before this, AIMIM had no political history of its own on this seat. If we talk about caste equation on the seat, the number of Muslim voters is more here.

2019 election data

Talking about the 2019 election data, the number of male voters on this seat was 993970. At the same time, the number of female voters was 892289. Seen this way, the total number of voters in the Lok Sabha elections 2019 was 1886284.

The name of this Aurangabad district in Maharashtra has now been changed to Sambhajinagar. This became possible after the approval of the Center on the proposal of the State Government. The Center has given its green signal to this proposal on 24 February 2023. However, the name of the Lok Sabha seat is still Aurangabad.
