Time magazine’s prestigious annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world for 2024 has eight Indians in its ranks, namely Bollywood actress and entrepreneur Ali Bhatt, Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik and World Bank President Ajay Banga, among others.

Sakshi Malik, India’s only Olympic medalist in wrestling, is now protesting against alleged sexual harassment of female wrestlers by former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Ali Bhatt was included in the list due to her contribution in the field of acting as well as in welfare work.

Along with these, Indian-British Hollywood actor Dev Patel and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also featured in the list. Jigar Shah, director of the US department’s loan program office, a native of Modsa, Gujarat, also made it to the list.

World Bank President Ajay Banga, who also found a place on the list, was born in Pune, Maharashtra. Other Indian names on the list include celebrity chef Asma Khan, who was born in Kolkata and owns the famous London restaurant Darjeeling Express. It also fills Professor Priyamvada Natarajan, of the Department of Astronomy and Physics at Yale University. Priyamvada Natarajan was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and is known worldwide for her research and study of black holes.
